There have been several posts about fatigue recently. Reading various articles on-line I have concluded that fatigue is almost unavoidable:

1. A consequence of inflammation - the body's natural defence mechanism kicks in and results in fatigue
2. Anaemia. 2/3 of RA sufferers are anaemic to some degree and that creates fatigue
3. Vit D deficiency. Many meds require us to be careful in te sun, so we end up Vit D deficient, which causes fatique
4. Drug effects. Steroids can cause lows as well as highs. Azathioprine can cause fatigue.

Looking at the various posts it seem that many people have some or all of these. So maybe the answer is you just have to give in to it. But man is it debilitating - for everyone - family as well as sufferer.

Hello Paul
I'd also add to this list that with a drug-induced dampened immune system, even a bit of a cold can knock you out.
I try and go with the flow and snuggle up in bed for a while, with book, crossword, ipad etc.

Totally agree with you ,

It's also annoying when people say "you can't feel tired you haven't done anything " they just don't understand .

I think the fatigue is actually far worse than all the rest of my problems.... I am often so tired that I can't even think straight - let alone make a decision!!

I am playing around with some of my pain relief medication to see if I can get a better mix! I've tried all the pacing techniques and prioritising... but it would be lovely if there was a way they could treat our immune systems in such a way that the fatigue improved!! I am already on Vit D.

I've now been given 4 months off treatment (well apart from the Humira).... sulfasalazine caused me such a lot of problems my consultant decided steroids were a better option for me at the moment. yipee..... (she was trying to reduce down my dose but has given up for a bit)

So I am tiredly happy!!

If anyone has any bright ideas on the fatigue I'd love to hear them too!!

Back to beach now for my daily ice cream - looking at the calming sea.
